Use the videos below as a visual walkthrough of the upsell and cross-sell setup. They complement the written steps in this article and show where the main configuration options are located.

Where can I find it?

You start by configuring the products and offers that will be suggested to the customer. After that, you activate the functionality in the Webshop settings so the suggestions appear during the online booking process.

What does it mean?

Upselling and cross-selling are two ways to suggest additional value to customers during the booking flow. Upselling encourages customers to choose a higher-value option, for example changing from a 24-hour ticket to a 48-hour ticket. Cross-selling suggests a complementary product, for example adding a museum visit, a walking tour, or another activity to the same basket.

In the Palisis Webshop, these suggestions can be shown during checkout so customers can upgrade or add related products before completing the booking. You can display up to 10 suggestions and control whether the option is available on desktop, mobile, or both.

The new Webshop flow also supports two improvements:

  • Cross-sell maintain same day: when this setting is active, clicking +Add on a cross-sell suggestion keeps the same selected travel date and skips the date-selection step for the additional product.

  • Upsell delta price: For upsell suggestions, the webshop can show the price difference between the selected product and the upgraded product, clarifying how much extra the customer pays. Here, upsell and cross-sell suggestions appear immediately after pick-up point selection, or after ticket selection if there is no pick-up point, and are removed from the checkout page.

Before you activate the feature, decide which products should be suggested together and what customer journey you want to create. This helps you avoid showing irrelevant recommendations and makes the checkout experience clearer for the customer.

What should I do?

Step 1: Configure your upsell and cross-sell options

First, define the products that should be recommended as upsell or cross-sell options. This is where you decide which offer should be suggested, and in which context it should appear.

For example, you may want to offer a longer-duration ticket as an upsell, or suggest an additional tour as a cross-sell. Try to select products that are relevant to the original purchase so the suggestion feels useful rather than distracting.

For detailed instructions on how to create and manage these options, please refer to our dedicated support article How to set up the up-selling and cross-selling functionality.

Step 2: Activate functionality on your webshop

Once the upsell and cross-sell options are configured, activate the functionality in the Webshop so customers can see and select the suggestions during checkout.

Go to Sales channels > Webshop, open the relevant Webshop, and click Edit.

Under the Booking Process tab, enable Checkout with Basket. This setting is required for cross-selling because the customer needs a basket in order to add additional products to the same order.

In the same area, you can manage the suggestion behaviour: activate or deactivate upsell suggestions, choose the maximum number of suggestions to display, and decide whether upsell suggestions should be hidden on mobile devices.

If you want customers to add a cross-sell product for the same selected date without choosing the date again, enable Cross-sell maintain same day. This option is located in the Webshop configuration under Advanced > Booking process. When enabled, the Webshop automatically carries over the selected event date after the customer clicks +Add on a cross-sell suggestion.

Enable cross-sell maintain same day

Use this setting when the suggested product should normally be booked for the same day as the original product, for example a dinner linked to a concert or an add-on activity linked to a tour date. Leave it disabled if customers should actively choose a different date or timeslot for the cross-sell product.

Use the maximum number carefully. Showing fewer, more relevant suggestions usually makes the checkout easier to understand than showing many options at once.

Step 3: Add the offer to your webshop

After configuring and activating the functionality, make sure the relevant offers are added to the Webshop. If an offer is not added to the Webshop, customers will not be able to see or select it during the booking process.

Open the Webshop offer settings and add the configured offers that should be available online. Review the offer visibility and related settings to confirm that the products can be displayed as expected.

Step 4: Review how suggestions appear to customers

In the example below, the customer has selected the 24-hour ticket. During checkout, the Webshop displays relevant suggestions so the customer can either upgrade the ticket or add another product to the basket.

To upgrade the booking, the customer can change from the 24-hour ticket to the 48-hour ticket by clicking the +Change button.

For upsell suggestions, the Webshop can show the delta price, meaning the difference between the original product price and the upgraded product price. For example, if the customer selected a 24-hour ticket and the 48-hour ticket costs more, the suggestion can show only the extra amount the customer needs to pay for the upgrade.

The delta price is calculated for upsell items when the Webshop can match the selected event, route, passenger category, seat category, platform, and currency. If the upgraded product does not have a matching date and time, the suggestion may still be shown with its standard price instead of a delta price. If the Cross-sell/Upsell on booking process (new webshop) setting is enabled, the upsell suggestion shows the price difference, and both upsell and cross-sell suggestions appear before the booking checkout page.

To add a complementary product, the customer can add the Ronda tour to the basket by clicking the +Add button.

If Cross-sell maintain same day is enabled, the Webshop keeps the same selected date for the cross-sell product and skips the date-selection step. This creates a shorter checkout flow for add-on products that should happen on the same day as the original booking.
