What does it mean?

A Zebra printer is a thermal printer manufactured by Zebra Technologies. It is widely used in the ticketing and tourism industry for printing tickets, labels, wristbands, and receipts. Unlike standard receipt printers, such as Star Micronics or Custom VKP80III, Zebra printers are designed for high-quality label and ticket printing. This makes them ideal when durable, scannable tickets are required.

When to use a Zebra printer:

  • Printing admission tickets, boarding passes, or event wristbands at points of sale.

  • Printing barcode or QR code labels for ticket validation and access control.

  • High-volume ticketing environments such as attractions, tours, ferries, and museums.

  • Situations where ticket durability and print quality are essential, for example outdoor events.

Zebra printers can be connected to your Palisis device via USB or Bluetooth, depending on your hardware setup.

What should I do?

Follow the steps below to set up and configure your Zebra printer with the Palisis app.

Prerequisites:

  • Ensure the Palisis app is installed and up to date on your device. Version 4.65.17 or above is recommended.

  • Have your Zebra printer powered on and ready to connect via USB or network cable, depending on your model:

    • For USB connections, always plug in the Zebra printer before starting the Palisis app. The device must recognise the USB hardware on startup, or it may not be available in the printer list.

    • If you are using a network Zebra printer connected via Ethernet, make sure both the Palisis device and the printer are connected to the same network, and that the printer has been assigned a reachable IP address before configuring it in the Palisis app.

Step-by-step configuration:

  1. Open the Palisis app and navigate to the Start Ticketing screen.

  2. Tap the gear icon (⚙️) in the top-right corner to open Settings.

  4. Select the connection type for your Zebra printer:

    1. USB Direct: If the printer is connected via a USB cable, select USB. The app will detect and list available USB printers. Select your Zebra printer from the list.

    2. Network: To connect over a network, select Network. Before proceeding, make sure the Zebra printer is connected to the same Ethernet network as your device. Then, enter the printer's IP address, the port and press Connect to establish the connection.

  5. Restart the device after configuring the printer to apply the changes.

  6. Log back into the Palisis app.

ℹ️

If the printer is not detected after selecting USB, try plugging the USB cable into a different port on the device, then restart and repeat from step 3.

Once the test print is successful, your Zebra printer is ready to use. Tickets and vouchers will now print through the Zebra printer based on your configured ticket layouts.

Good to know

  • Ticket layouts: Ensure your ticket layout in the Palisis Backoffice is configured for the Zebra printer's format. Different printers may require different layout settings, such as label size or orientation. For instructions on configuring ticket layouts, refer to the article: How to configure the Ticket/Receipt/Voucher Layout.

  • Multiple printer types: If your setup uses both a Zebra printer for tickets or labels and another printer for receipts, ensure the correct layout is assigned to each product or price point in the Backoffice.

  • App version consistency: For printer features such as custom font types and barcode rendering to work seamlessly, ensure all devices in your fleet are running the same Palisis app version. Version 4.65.4 or higher is recommended.

FAQs

Can I use a Zebra printer with any Palisis device?

Zebra printers are compatible with most Palisis-supported devices, including ELO terminals, Sunmi devices, and standard Android tablets. Ensure the device has a USB port or network connection, depending on your Zebra printer's connection type.

What should I do if the Zebra printer is not printing after setup?

If it shows red, verify that the USB cable is securely connected, the printer cover is closed, paper is loaded, and the printer is powered on. Try restarting the device, reconnecting the printer and running a test print again. If the issue persists, contact support@palisis.com.

Can I print both tickets and receipts on a Zebra printer?

Zebra printers are designed exclusively for ticket printing. To ensure proper output, make sure the ticket layout in the Palisis Backoffice is configured to match the Zebra printer's paper size and format. For step-by-step instructions, see the ticket layout configuration guide.

Do I need a specific Zebra printer model?

Palisis supports various Zebra printer models. The most common models used in ticketing environments are Zebra ZD-series and ZQ-series printers. Contact your Palisis account manager or support@palisis.com for recommendations based on your specific use case.
